Bringing fresh colour to our estates

February 17th 2021

Torus’s commitment to improving communities extends further than its homes. This winter, the Vulcan and Valiant estate in Padgate, Warrington is getting an injection of colour, with 22 new planting beds bringing a splash of colour to the estate.

With Covid-19 limiting where we can travel to, more people than ever have started to discover what’s on their doorstep. The hope is that this ‘Winter Planting’ project will improve the local environment and give residents something to enjoy year-round.

The new planting beds will also consist of shrubs, small trees, plus a mixture of wildflower planting and spring bulbs. As well as the planting, the team will also prune existing beds, clean and tidy overgrown pathways and remove any litter.

Torus Warrington Neighbourhood Officer, Valerie Guard, said:

“By making these improvements, it is hoped that it both provides residents with something they can enjoy all year round, whilst encouraging people to maintain the area and take pride in where they live.

“We hope that the residents are looking forward to seeing the difference the planting will make, especially all the coloured bulbs in the Spring!”

The project is similar to previous winter planting projects on Allen Street, Rolleston Street, Howson Road and Grasmere & Greenwood.

The works, which started in February 2021, are being completed by the Greenspace Team, part of Torus’s contract partner, HMS.
