Torus shortlisted for two national TPAS Awards

This week we are celebrating after being shortlisted for two TPAS Awards.

The awards celebrate the tireless passion, commitment and impact the work of tenants and housing providers undertake day in, day out to drive lasting change for individuals and communities alike.

The first award is for Torus Tenant Voice, in the Outstanding Tenant Engagement Award category.

In 2019 Torus published a new Tenant Voice Strategy, developed in consultation with 100 tenants, helping to  shape the aims, objectives and methods of engagement.

Torus Regional Director, Jan Calland, said:

“Torus is committed to engaging with tenants and residents to ensure that they are fully involved, able to influence and shape how services are delivered and have their say in all decisions that affect their home, their safety and their community.

“Torus Tenant Voice encourages involvement from a diverse range of tenants and sets out the different ways tenants can get involved, it introduced greater tenant led scrutiny and meets the standards set out in the National Housing Federation’s ‘Together with Tenants’ national charter, for which Torus was an early adopter.

We have a dedicated Tenant Voice team within Housing Services, the team works with service leads across the organisation to amplify our tenant voice and  ensure the tenant voice is heard, listened to and acted upon.”

Our second nomination is in the Excellence in Tenant Communication Award, for our ‘Your Home Your Safety Guide’, a booklet for tenants, developed with tenants, which explains the steps we take to keep tenants, their family, neighbours and their home safe.

Torus Group Assets Director (acting), Carl Talbot-Davies, explains why the guide was developed;

“The guide was developed in response to the Government’s ‘The Charter for Social Housing Residents’ White Paper, which aims to make major reforms to support housing customers in England and was a direct response to the tragic events at Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.

“It was important to ensure tenants understood the work Torus did to keep them safe but also their responsibilities to keep themselves, their family and their neighbours safe.  Feedback from tenants suggested they did not clearly understand the reasons for the different visits to their properties, what we needed to check and why.  The guide outlines safety information, the responsibility of both Torus and that of the tenant and covers, gas, fire, electrical, asbestos, water, lifts, communal areas and seasonal safety.

“A key aspect of the project was tenant engagement throughout for initial concept to design and printing.”

The guide was then published, a printed copy was posted to every Torus tenant and a digital version is available on the Torus websites.
