Liverpool FC has confirmed that affordable housing provider Torus has acquired the Club’s Melwood training ground site in West Derby.
In 2017, LFC secured planning consent for a proposed redevelopment of the Club’s existing training ground at Melwood. Following a thorough assessment of potential future uses for the site, it was determined that the most sustainable use was for much-needed housing in West Derby. Throughout the tender process, Torus was identified as the best socially responsible housing developer to take over the Melwood site.
As a provider of more than 1,600 homes in the area, Torus is already a long-standing part of the West Derby community.
Though plans are at an early stage, they will be driven by providing quality affordable homes that address local need, including specialist housing provision where older people and those with additional care needs can lead sociable, fulfilling and independent lives.
Group Chief Executive, Steve Coffey, said: “Having concluded the purchase of the site our priority now is to work with the community to establish proposals that work for everyone.”
