Torus Foundation becomes one of the first organisations to receive the Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Accreditation

22 May 2026

Torus Foundation is proud to be one of eight organisations in Liverpool to receive the new Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Accreditation. This means we’ve made a commitment to tackling health inequalities and improving the key factors that contribute to good health in Liverpool.

Fairer, Healthier Liverpool is the response to Liverpool becoming a Marmot City in 2025. Named after Sir Michael Marmot, who leads the Institute for Health Equity, Marmot City status means local councils, organisations, and communities will work together to improve health and create fairer environments where everyone can do well in life and thrive.

Kate Shone, Managing Director said:

“We’re immensely proud to have received this accreditation. It shows we’re committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our tenants, neighbourhoods and wider communities. Now, with the support of the Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Partnership, we can continue to strengthen and develop our offer, having even more impact for those that need it most.”

As a Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Organisation, we’re committing to:

  • Improving the foundations for good health
  • Promoting equity
  • Working together
  • Being evidence based
  • Action and impact

Our continued commitment to stronger neighbourhoods

At Torus Foundation we support all ages with holistic services that enhance health and wellbeing.
Our Social Prescribing Service supports social housing tenants to access personalised, non-clinical services to improve health and wellbeing, while our Employment and Skills team offer local, assistance for tenants looking to get back to work or develop new skills.

FireFit Hub in Toxteth, is our flagship youth service for ages 6 to 19, co-designed with young people to reflect their needs. The low-cost membership includes free, nutritious food, and unlimited sessions, help to ease cost of living pressures that families feel.

In April 2025, Torus Foundation’s Board adopted the 8 Marmot Principles to guide our work, allowing us to focus on creating healthy, sustainable communities. The Marmot Principles are a framework to address health inequalities and improve the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age. They are:

  1. Give every child has the best start in life
  2. Enable people to maximise their capabilities and have control over their lives
  3. Create fair employment and good work for all
  4. Ensure a healthy standard of living for everyone
  5. Create and develop healthy communities and environments
  6. Strengthen prevention across all sectors to reduce ill-health
  7. Tackle racism, discrimination and their outcomes
  8. Promoting environmental sustainability and health equity

Now a year on from adopting the 8 Marmot Principles, receiving the Fairer, Healthier Liverpool Accreditation reaffirms our dedication to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Torus tenants and communities.
