Catherine Murray-Howard joins Torus as Chief Operating Officer

September 12th 2019

Following a comprehensive selection process, North West housing group Torus, has appointed Catherine (Cath) Murray-Howard to the role of Chief Operating Officer.

With the amalgamation of Liverpool Mutual Homes, Helena Partnerships and Golden Gates Housing Trust to form the ‘new’ Torus in January 2019, we have seen the creation of a strong, dynamic group that has set its aspirations high.  This high-profile appointment to the Group’s Executive Management Team will support its ambitions both socially and commercially.

With an enviable track record in health and social care and a passion for improving the living conditions of the people she supports, Cath’s vision and drive perfectly reflects that of the new group.

Cath has more than two decades’ leadership experience working in both social and commercial sectors including roles as: Chief Operating Officer at Mersten Group, Director of Strategy and Business Development at The Disabilities Trust and Deputy CEO at Community Integrated Care, a charity focused on older people and people with learning disabilities.

“Two key themes are critical to Torus success: people and place. Cath’s appointment to the role will help us deliver on both,” says Torus Chief Executive, Steve Coffey. “Cath has had an impressive career with a huge impact on health, social care and development, which places people at the heart of what she does.

“This is an exciting time for Torus as we evolve into a bigger, stronger, more influential organisation.  Earlier in the year we launched our corporate plan and new operating model, with Cath as Chief Operating Officer, we can consolidate our growth and success as we build on our vision of Growing Stronger Communities.”

Cath said: “The original Torus and Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) are organisations I have admired for many years, so to be given the opportunity to play a part in helping to shape the future of the ‘new’ Torus is an honour and a privilege. Torus has incredible potential and I look forward to working alongside Steve, Peter and the team to deliver new homes, new services and new opportunities not just in Liverpool, St Helens and Cheshire but across the North West.”

Cath will take up her role in October this year, working alongside Chief Executive Steve Coffey and Chief Financial and Commercial Director Peter Fieldsend.

As well as playing an active leadership role, she will be responsible for the group’s commercial division, HMS; housing services including the group’s 40,000 strong stock portfolio and Torus Foundation, the charitable arm of the group that delivers socially responsible initiatives which unlock potential and change lives.
